  1. Prepare 2 cups fresh okra chopped

  5. Prepare 1 tomato diced
  6. Get 1/8 cup oil + half of a 1/8 cup of oil
  7. Prepare 1 tsp minced serrano peppers (optional)

Bhindi masala is a popular north Indian dish made with bhindi, tomato, onion and spices. It can be prepared as dry bhindi masala and dhaba style bhindi masala. Bhindi also known as Okra or Lady finger is cooked in different ways in India, depending on the region or part of India. Steps to make Bhindi (Okra):
  1. Take a medium sauce pan and add 1/8 cup of oil + half of an 1/8 cup of oil and place on medium high heat.
  2. Add 2 cups of freshly washed okra roughly chopped and place into a sauce pan with 1 tsp of lemon pepper.
  3. Fry on high heat for 5 minutes (don’t stir up too much or else it’ll become slimy) and then take out of the pan and place into a bowl.
  4. In the same sauce pan, add 1 tsp of oil, 1/2 of a sliced onion and cook on medium/ medium high heat until it’s brown and caramelized. (About 10-15 minutes)
  5. Add Lazeez Asian Cuisine spice mix to onions and mix well.
  6. Add 1 diced tomato to onion mixture and mix well. If you want it to be more spicy then add 1-2 tsp of minced serrano peppers. (The peppers are optional)
  7. Cook for 5 minutes on medium high heat, and then add okra to mixture.
  8. Cover with a lid and simmer on low heat for about 45 min-1 hour or until the okra is tender.
  9. Serve hot with naan, chapati or rice.

Easy to prepare and tastes incredibly delicious this is a perfect dry sabzi recipe. Bhindi or okra has a cult following, and it is enjoyed in a wide variety of ways. My favorite way to have it is deep fried like here, but that's more of a snack or fun dinner side rather than a substantive dish that can be had on its own.
